Mothers diet linked to premature birth

Women who eat a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains are less likely to have a pre-term birth according to a new Swedish study.  Published in the British Medical Journal earlier this month, the researchers found that a ‘prudent’ dietary pattern (based on  (vegetables, fruits, oils, water as a beverage, whole grain cereals, poultry, fibre rich bread) were less likely to have a pre-term delivery, particularly in women having their first pregnancy. They suggest that dietary counsellling in pregnancy might be one way to reduce the risk of pre-term deliveries..
